When you hear the word wellness, you might picture fitness trackers, pricey supplements, or spa-like experiences. Today, wellness is often marketed as a luxury—something to be bought, achieved, or perfected.
But at the Free Clinic of Powhatan, we see it differently.
To us, wellness is about people. It’s about meeting each person exactly where they are.
Thanks to our supporters, we’re able to offer a version of wellness that’s free from judgment and free of charge—for every uninsured neighbor who walks through our doors.
What Wellness Looks Like in Our Community
Wellness isn't a product. It’s a process, especially for the patients we serve.
It can look like:
Feeling less stressed after a visit with our mental health counselor
Learning how to manage diabetes through nutrition education
Finding a new sense of purpose after a tough diagnosis
Discovering tools to cope with anxiety, grief, or caregiving stress
Connecting to others in a moment of loneliness
Receiving care from someone who listens without rushing
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution—and that’s the point. Every person’s path to wellness is different. But with the right support, it’s a path they don’t have to walk alone.
Ann: Providing Care Beyond the Clinical
Meet Ann, a licensed counselor who meets one-on-one with patients in a safe, welcoming space at our clinic. With warmth and deep compassion, Ann helps individuals process life’s stressors, rebuild confidence, and take steps toward emotional well-being.
For many of our patients, Ann is the first mental health provider they’ve ever had access to. Her services are entirely free—and made possible because of donor support.

We also offer telehealth options for those who can’t make it to the clinic in person, ensuring that care is accessible no matter someone’s transportation, work, or childcare situation.
Community Support Makes This Possible
Mental health services are often out of reach for the uninsured. Counseling sessions can cost $100 or more per hour—prohibitive for many working adults, especially those juggling multiple jobs, caregiving responsibilities, or chronic illness.
But because of your generosity, our patients don’t have to choose between getting help and paying a bill.
Our donors are removing barriers, restoring dignity, and empowering people to care for their whole selves—mind, body, and spirit.
A Community Where Everyone Can Feel Well
When donors support the Free Clinic of Powhatan, they aren't just funding care. They are investing in hope, healing, and the kind of community we all want to live in—one where wellness belongs to everyone.
