Last month, runners, walkers, and community supporters came together for the first-ever Good Medicine 5K & One-Mile Fun Walk, benefiting the Free Clinic of Powhatan.
And what an incredible morning it was!

After lots of rainy days, the skies cleared just in time, giving us three perfect hours of sunshine to celebrate what keeps us healthy. Nearly 250 participants signed up to support the Free Clinic of Powhatan, joined by over 30 dedicated volunteers and a long list of generous sponsors and donors who made the event possible.

From the laughter at check-in to the cheers at the finish line, the day overflowed with gratitude and good energy.
More Than a Race — A Community Celebration
One of the first across the finish line clocked in at a blazing 15:50, setting the bar high for next year! But for most, the real win was being part of something impactful. Families walked together, friends ran side by side, and participants smiled at the encouraging signs that lined the courses – a favorite detail many mentioned.

Even our own team got in on the fun! Our nurse practitioner, counselor, two translators and dental case manager laced up and joined the race, showing that movement is truly medicine for everyone. Even the people who care for our patients every day.
Our favorite? One of our supporters dressed up as a peanut butter and jelly duo, spreading smiles (and sandwich puns) wherever they went.

A Morning Full of Milestones
The Good Medicine 5K wasn’t just a success on the course, but a milestone for our clinic.
We welcomed 121 new donors into our growing community of supporters and raised nearly $12,000 to help sustain vital healthcare services for uninsured and underinsured adults across Powhatan, Amelia, Cumberland, and Chesterfield Counties.

Together, we’re ensuring that our neighbors continue to have access to quality medical, dental, mental health care and more — the kind of care that changes lives.
And in another exciting moment, we were proud to announce that the Free Clinic of Powhatan will begin accepting Medicaid starting November 1st,, helping more neighbors receive care that they may not be able to find in our region.
