Our Mission and Vision
The mission of the Free Clinic of Powhatan is to provide high quality medical, dental, and mental health care services at no cost to Powhatan County's adult (19-64 years old) uninsured, low-income residents.
The vision of the Free Clinic of Powhatan is to improve the health of our patients. Patients who regain their health and become informed about managing their illnesses will become more productive.
Information about the Uninsured
Do you know that:
- Approximately 70% of all Free Clinics' patients work full time and 12% work part time.
- In Powhatan County, an estimated 1,600 people are uninsured (5.8% of the county's total population).
History of the Clinic
In the summer of 2007, Connie Moslow, a community health activist, approached the Powhatan/Chesterfield Health Department, the Powhatan County Board of Supervisors, and a small group of citizens to discuss the idea of establishing a free clinic that would provide medical services to the uninsured, low-income adult residents of the County. The idea was embraced by all. In the fall of 2007, the Bon Secours Care-A-Van began visiting Powhatan County monthly. From her vision and with the assistance of numerous organizations and community residents, the Free Clinic of Powhatan was established in September 2008 at its present location within the Powhatan County Health Department facility.
